🦴 Something firmer to chew
One of the things we hear most often in our Normanton shop is, “My dog eats everything in seconds.” For enthusiastic chewers, a firmer chew may be a better place to start than a soft snack.
Different dogs chew very differently, so we do not promise that a particular treat will last for a set amount of time. Size, chewing style and experience all matter.

Fido’s Chew Scale measures the firmness of a treat, not how long it will last. Every dog chews differently.
Harder is not automatically better. Choose a chew of an appropriate size and firmness for your own dog and always supervise them while chewing.

🐶 My dog is fussy
If your dog turns their nose up at treats, buying a large quantity of one thing can be a gamble. A mixed selection lets them try different proteins, textures and types so you can see what they actually enjoy.

🥩 My dog can or can’t have certain proteins
If you already know which proteins your dog enjoys, or there is a protein you want to avoid, our Protein Range is the easiest place to narrow the choice.

🐾 I have a puppy or older dog
Puppies and older dogs may benefit from starting with smaller, softer or easier-to-manage choices rather than simply choosing by the size of the dog.
As a cautious shop approach, at Fido’s we generally suggest waiting until around 12 weeks before introducing treats to puppies, then beginning with small, softer choices. Always check the individual product and seek veterinary advice if you are unsure what is appropriate for your puppy.
Older dogs, particularly those with fewer teeth or who no longer enjoy very firm chews, may also prefer softer treats and smaller pieces.

🐟 I’m interested in fish treats
Fish treats are a popular choice at Fido’s. Fish and oily fish can provide naturally occurring omega-3 fatty acids, so they are often chosen by owners looking for ingredients that can support normal skin and coat health.
Our fish range includes different textures and sizes, from small fish treats through to larger chews.

Think about size and chewing style
Dog size is useful, but it does not tell the whole story. A small dog can be a determined chewer, while a much larger dog may prefer something softer.
When choosing a treat, think about:

- Their chewing style
- The firmness and size of the treat
- Their age and experience with chews
- Any ingredients or proteins you need to include or avoid
Breed alone should not be used to decide which chew is suitable.
