Fido followed Lincoln everywhere through the streets of Springfield, Illinois — tail wagging, head high, and heart full. He greeted neighbours, made friends with strangers, and quickly became loved by everyone who met him.

When Lincoln left for Washington, Fido stayed behind with family friends, becoming one of America’s earliest celebrity dogs. His name soon became a nickname for every faithful dog — the one who’s always happy to see you, who never judges, and who loves you just as you are.
